This Sunday, all throughout Italy, hundreds of villages welcome tourists and locals for the so-called Bandiera Arancione day, a great event organized by Touring Club Italiano, the main organization for travel and tourism.

How many times have you tried to call the tourist office with no answer? What about reaching a beautiful church by climbing one hundred stairs and it was closed?  This is not supposed to happen if you have the lucky opportunity to visit one of the charming Bandiera Arancione villages in Italy, hidden destinations awarded with high quality standards for their warm welcome to travelers and their strong local identity.

“Our purpose is to encourage tourism off the beaten path for an authentic travel experience”, Touring Club Italiano says, “and to support local resources, handcraft and businesses”. Free tours, folk festivals, wine and food-tasting, shows and parades, as well as a unique warm welcome are offered all over Italy. Check their website www.bandierearancioni.it to find out the list of the villages and activities.
