The Pasquetta day has historical and religious significance: indeed, Italian Catholics call it Lunedì dell’ Angelo which is meant to remember the women of the sepulcher, including Mary Magdalene, who were comforted by an angel when they returned to Jesus’ tomb and found it empty. B
Until the 19th century, the entire week after Easter is a time to relax: maybe with some leftovers, Pasquetta is the day of the picnic. Either driving to the mountains or to the beach, Italians set up camp with lunches or portable grills. The tradition includes frittatas or hard boiled eggs and an assortment of grilled meats.
