The Italian young operatic pop trio Il Volo, made of two tenors Piero Barone and Ignazio Boschetto, and the baritone Gianluca Ginoble, won the first prize at the 65th Sanremo Music Festival finale, on Saturday, February 14th, with the song Grande Amore.

In second position, the pop singer Nek with his song Fatti avanti amore, hits the highest placement in the festival, after his debut in 1997 edition with his song: Laura non c’è.

In third placement was Moroccan-Italian Malika Ayane, with her song Adesso e qui (Nostalgico presente). She also won the Critics’ Award Mia Martini.

In spring 2009, the trio Il Volo was put together by Roberto Cenci, director of the 2008-2009 Italian popular talent show Ti Lascio una Canzone.

Since then, they have had an ever “ascending” career abroad. I will mention just a few of their accomplishments: after the TV success, Quincy Jones called the trio as the only Italian singers to perform in We Are the World 25 for Haiti, recorded on February 1st 2010, to raise funds for the population struck by the tsunami; the trio renamed itself, Il Volo, after their Platinum debut album, coproduced by Humberto Gatica and Tony Renis with Diane Warren’s collaboration, and released in Italy in November 2010.

In 2011, they were the first Italian singers to sign with Geffen Records, one of U.S. most prestigious record label, placing themselves 10th in the US Billboard 200’s rankings; on September 24th 2011, the trio set off on a tour across the States, whose final concert at the Detroit Opera House was aired as the PBS Special Il Volo Takes FlightIl Volo has been on major U.S. TV shows’ stages, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Talk, American Idol, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and The Rachael Ray Showth, Il Volo had the honor to perform at the Nobel Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway.

It looks like Il Volos future is going to be even brighter, since through their win in Sanremo, they are entitled to represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 next May in Vienna, Austria.
