Singer-songwriter Gianmaria Testa died on Wednesday at age 57 in the hospital in Alba, in the Piedmont region.
Born in Cavallermaggiore, Testa was originally a railway worker. He began his musical career in 1993 when he won first place at the Recanati Music Festival. He performed over 3,000 concerts across Europe and in North America during his career, across which he produced eight albums, the last in 2013.
He also wrote children’s books with accompanying CDs. His most recent novel, whose title translates to “From This Side of the Sea” after his 2006 album, is based on contemporary migration and scheduled to hit bookshop shelves on April 19.
