Festival of the Italian Music Kicks Off in Sanremo
Flowers from last year's edition of the Festival di Sanremo
The Festival di Sanremo is known as Il Festival della Canzone Italiana, which is the most important festival of Italian music. While it takes place at the Ariston Theatre, for a week, famous and young Italian singers perform new songs, written just for the show.

The first Festival of Sanremo was firstly organized by the Italian businessman Pier Busseti and was broadcasted on the radio in 1951. Italians loved the Festival straight away: singers and stars walk Sanremo’s red carpet, surrounded by beautiful flowers of Liguria.

This year’s contest, starting on Tuesday, will hosted by Carlo Conti assisted by comedian Virginia Raffaele, Romanian actress and model Madalina Diana Ghenea and actor Gabriel Garko, will be as usual replete with song, dance and special guests. It is basically keeping the same format as last year, with 20 acts in the established singers category and eight newcomers.
