An Italian castle once owned by hedonistic American libertine who first patented the bra has been returned to its former glory.
The fortress of Rocca Sinibalda is located 50 miles north of Rome and has been the scene of some bohemian parties with famous artists and writers of the ’50s, under the ownership of Caresse Crosby.
The castle had lain abandoned for half a century and it took almost eight years and millions of euros to complete restoration.
Architects, art experts and fifty builders had to deal with the difficult access to the fortress surrounded on three sides by sheer cliffs and entered only by a steep cobbled passage at the end of a jumble of medieval lanes.
The castle dates to the 10th century but was enlarged in the 1530s by a leading Renaissance military strategist and remodelled to resemble the shape of a scorpion.
