Flavia Pennetta Running for The Title as WTA Comeback Player of the Year

The finalists for the 2015 WTA Comeback Player Of The Year have been released and, together with Serena Williams, Agnieszka Radwanska, and Garbiñe Muguruza, also Italian player Pennetta who made her final season on the WTA tour unforgettable at this year’s US Open.

As underlined, the Italian enjoyed a fairytale run to the final with wins over 2011 champion Samantha Stosur, two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova, and No.2 seed Halep to book an improbable championship marquee alongside childhood friend, Roberta Vinci.

Swatting away one last forehand winner, Flavia Pennetta had cemented her spot in history as the first Italian to take home the US Open title. Pennetta parlayed that momentum into a career-high ranking and WTA Finals debut, where she beat eventual champion Radwanska in straight sets during round robin play.
