Frank Sinatra Jr., the son of the Italian American singer Frank died Wednesday at 72 at a Daytona Beach, Florida.

Sinatra was on his “Sinatra Sings Sinatra” tour and was scheduled to perform at the Peabody Auditorium on Wednesday. An announcement on the venue’s Facebook page said the singer had taken ill.

Born in Jersey City, into the household of one of the most popular singers in the world, Frank Jr. hardly saw his father, who was usually on the road performing or working in movies. Frank Jr. wanted to become a piano player and songwriter from his earliest days. His father wanted to name him after Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was President at the time of his birth. Indeed, he followed his father’s singing career path and was a 19-year-old on tour when he was kidnapped by three men in 1963. After three days, two of the men went to go collect a $240,00 ransom, but the other abductor let the son free. The kidnappers were caught and later convicted.
