Forum of Trajan in Rome

While Rome’s city council had planned in June 2014 to change the square near the Forum of Trajan into a car-free area, the Lazio regional court (TAR) rejected the pedestrain zone as people working in the area and locals complained.

For this reason, the Court stated that, as Rome’s representatives did not negotiate the plan with local people and did not run any survey on the traffic patterns, the request has been rejected. The ruling means that 2,000-year-old zone in front of the emperor Trajan’s ancient market has returned to a car park for a few cars because the pedestrian area would not ensure “better functionality of the roadway and local mobility”.
