From the famous archaeological site of Paestum, after attending to the annual Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism, we reach by train the fascinating archaeological site of Velia, whose original Greek name was Hyele. The Ancient Velia has a truly incredible history, listen to it! Founded by the exiled Phocaeans from Turkey, it became soon a very important place, where the philosopher Parmenide founded his revolutionary Eleatic school. Visit the archaeological area with its stunning Rosa Gateway, perfectly preserved.
In these days, the site has been also visited by the Ambassador of the United States of America, John Phillips, together with the Consul General, Colombia Barrosse, who took advantage of the sunny day to visit the Greek temples. “Even after 2500 years the Greek architects continue to astound the world: for us it was a great surprise again the Ambassador in Paestum this morning and show him
sources of Western architecture,” says the Director of Park, Gabriel Zuchtriegel, while he accompanied the Ambassador inside the Temple of Neptune and the Basilica.
