Tastes of Italy: A Food Tasting to Benefit San Francisco’s Official Italian Language School
The Istituto Italiano Scuola is proud to present a fundraising event to promote and increase awareness of its mission of providing excellent quality teaching of the Italian language in the Bay Area.
The completely self-financed, non-profit school was founded in the late 1990s and has been growing ever since. It is located in the charming Jackson Square district, where red brick and sophisticated antique stores rub shoulders with bustling North Beach.
“Being so close, but yet separate, from the City’s lively Italian neighborhood is definitely a plus,”– explains Diletta Torlasco, director of IIS. “We like being able to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the cafés and the restaurants, but it is also great that our students—many of whom are professionals working in the Financial District—can reach us easily after the office.”
IIS is the only school affiliated with the San Francisco Italian Cultural Institute, and offers Italian language courses for every level, from absolute beginner to highly advanced.
“All our instructors are native Italian speakers with degrees from Italian universities and our classes are taught entirely in Italian,” explains Torlasco. “We use a total immersion method that is been proved over the years to be extremely effective with students of all ages.”
“Tastes of Italy” will take place March 10th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Institute, 814 Montgomery Street in San Francisco. It will showcase tastings from local producers such as Framani and Emporio Rulli. There will be wine and live music, as well as raffle prizes. Attendees will be able to relax and speak Italian (if they wish,) and have a great time. Tickets are $40 each ($50 at the door).
The proceeds from the fundraiser will enable the school to sustain its core mission and to acquire new materials for teacher enrichment and course expansion.
