All the Italian regions, provinces and municipalities have submitted a list of 686 public properties that are ready to be appraised and auctioned off to central government. They included disused castles and other historical buildings, hospitals, schools, theaters, hotels, and sport complexes.
The Orsini Castle in Soriano nel Cimino, the monastery of the Carmelitani Scalzi in Viterbo and the former town hall in Trento, but also a former convent in Venice, the hospital complex Forlanini in Rome, Palazzo della Sanità in Verona and that of the prefecture in Pisa.
The goal is to have castles and monasteries sold to businessmen and other individuals that can bring them to the original glory, perhaps turning them into luxury resorts.
These properties are different in type and characteristics located a bit ‘all over the country. In particular: 92 properties in Piedmont, 57 in Abruzzo, in Lombarida 79, 73 in Tuscany, 52 in Sicily, 51 in Veneto, 49 in Liguria, Emilia Romagna 45, 40 Campania, Puglia 33, 28 in Lazio, 18 in the Marches, 15 in Friuli Venezia Giulia, 11 in Umbria, 7 in Sardinia, 2 in Trentino, one in Basilicata and Valle d’Aosta.
