The small town of Rende, in the Calabria region, has become the core of the world for one day, thanks to the longest pizza ever made. Breaking the Spanish record of a 1,141 meter pizza, the Calabrese pizzaioli coming from all over the region made a pizza which was 1,299 meters long.
The event gathered 70,000 people watching what was happening and it took 16 hours of work for the pizza-makers, whose challenge was witnessed by a notary, a lawyer, and a surveyor who measured the pizza.
Rende’s mayor Marcello Manna said: “A really good day which aimed not only to make a very good pizza, but proved the hard work of volunteers who helped roll out the world’s longest pizza. The aggregation and the spirit of belonging is part of my city. I am proud to be mayor of these people.”
