The Lussari Mountain is located between Trieste, and the Alps and it is part of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The Carso area was important during the WWI, when Italians and Austrians were involved in many battles along the border.
One of the legends of the Lussari Mountain says that, a long time ago, a fearless hunter pointed his gun at a young chamois, grazing on Sella Prasni Val Saisera. But the bullet penetrated into the ground of the Holy Mountain and, soon after, the man stiffened slowly and was transformed into a rock.
For this reason, under the imposing walls of these mountains, you will see the sculpture of a hunter in memory of that ancient outrage. The path on the way to Monte Lussari became a must for thousands and thousands of pilgrims.
Since this place has been of the most known battlefields during different wars in Europe, there is now the sanctuary of Maria Lussari still watches over those lands where soldiers lost many lives and welcomes, in summer, hikers and, in winter, skiers.
