Amedeo Modigliani’s Nu Couché (Reclining Nude) sold for 170.4 million dollars at Christie’s Monday: the painting of an outstretched nude woman by the early-20th-century Italian artist was sold to Liu Yiqian, a former taxi driver turned billionaire art collector. It was the second-highest price paid for an artwork at auction.

The record is held by Picasso’s Les femmes d’Alger, which sold for 179.4 million dollars at Christie’s in May. Modigliani’s signature work was sold by Laura Mattioli Rossi, who had been guaranteed a sale price of at least 100 million dollars.
