Mama Marjas, an authentic Italian band and a versatile artist guests of Taste of Italy

Finally a band that is truly Italian and really represents part of the Italian music scene. Those who decided to “savor” Taste of Italy till late, also had the chance to enjoy some Reggae and R&B music, with the Live Set of Mama Marjas.

Let’s say that by making this choice, Marianna Gatto, festival organizer and IAMLA executive director, in collaboration with the music festival Hit Week, really gave the festival a fun, entertaining touch. Joyful notes, interesting lyrics that go from the lightest topics to political issues, and a dynamic coreography, made the entire Pico House dance.

Maria Germinario, AKA Mama Marjas, was born in Puglia in 1986 and grew up between Santeramo and Taranto. Her incredibly strong, warm and vibrant voice brought her in many venues all over Italy. In 2009 her first album came out: B-LADY, produced by Love University Records. Marjas sings both in Italian and English, and very often in her dialect.

A versatile artist then, ready to hit the stage of Italy and new countries, performing on the same stage of big names like Sean Paul. Coming from a region rich in culture, Marjas know how to use her heritage; 2011 is the year of her second record, “90”, which seems to be a lab of different genres and styles. 16 tracks that go from reggae to soul, from hip-hop to dance.

Her collaborations with reknown artists and producers, such as Michelangelo Buonarroti Band, Dj Afghan, Nitre Lite, la Bizzarri Records, Paolo Baldini, Adrian Sherwood, Kykah, Sista Kinky e Miss Mykela, just to mention some, make Mama Marjas one to keep an eye on in the Italian reggae scene.
