The secret of the happy marriage between Italian cinema and food was revealed on the occasion of Movie’n’Food, a special dinner hosted by the Italian Cultural Institute on November 13, featuring an abundant and exquisite menu inspired by the movies of Vittorio De Sica, Luchino Visconti, Federico Fellini, Ettore Scola,Giuseppe Tornatore, Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni, and Martin Scorsese.
Besides the delicious food, based on ten recipes by journalist Laura Delli Colli, author of a Secret Notebook colleting anecdotes about the relationship between movie and cinema, the evening was liven up by the performance of pianist and composer Giuseppina Torre, Italy’s representative at the 2013 Los Angeles Music Awards.
In addition, the unique work of the “King of Paparazzi” Rino Barillari- showing Hollywood artists enjoying “la dolce vita” in Rome – was illustrated in a special video, while photographer Fabio Lovino – who has captured “the great beauty” of movie and music stars from all over the world – presented his exhibition Portraits on view at the IIC until December 31.
The event was organized by Dress in Dreams – a foundation established in 2006 and committed to promote the Italian style in different fields, from fashion to cinema -, under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles and in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, the Italian Trade Commission, and LuceCinecittà.
As it took place in conjunction with the opening of Cinema Italian Style2013 film festival, among the special guests was a prestigious delegation of Italian directors and actresses including Kasia Smutniak, Claudia Gerini, Jasmine Trinca, Roberto Andò, Maria Sole Tognazzi, Bernardo Bertolucci, and Paolo Sorrentino. Consul General of Italy Giuseppe Perrone, the Director of the Italian Trade Commission Carlo Bocchi, the CEO and President of LuceCinecittà Roberto Cicutto and Rodrigo Cipriani were also in attendance.
In 2014, Movie’n’Food will also be presented in Houston, Washington DC and New York, with the aim of showing how the approach to Italian cuisine and food products has radically changed over the years. As Elisabetta Cantone – journalist and co-founder of Dress in Dreams together with art expert Francesca Silvestri -, underlines: “From the original Little Italy’s spaghetti and meatballs, nowadays many Italian restaurants are top of the range in the United States.” And Francesca Silvestri adds that “The combination of quality, healthy food and entertainment has always been distinctive of Italy, and now it is recognized worldwide as one of our many points of strength.”
The initiative was also made possible thanks to the support of Lazio Region – represented by the Director for Economic Development Guido Fabiani – in promoting and protecting Italian food, as well as of suppliers such as Di Martino Gragnano pasta, Ferriera di Atina wines, Frantoio di Daniele Gallotti oil, Savello Roma de La Quercia, and Montanari&Gruzza parmesan cheese.
