A young, energetic and independent politician, Luigi de Magistris is also coming to San Francisco to promote Unite The Two Bays, www.unitethetwobays.com – an economic and cultural exchange project whose goal is to revive the historical ties running between the Bay Area of San Francisco and the Bay of Naples.

An interesting, and unique, connotation of the project is that the cultural aspects are undertaken in support of creating innovation, startups, cutting-edge scientific research and new entrepreneurship in the city (please read more at http://www.napoliunplugged.com/from-vesuvio-to-silicon-valley-and-back-unite-the-two-bays.html). Unite the Two Bays also aims to launch a periodical international symposium on the Mediterranean Diet, in collaboration with the departments of neurology and cardiology of the University of California, San Francisco.

The Teatro di San Carlo, Naples’ opera house and Europe’s oldest functioning lyrical institution, has in some ways become the ambassador of this effort through a concert onOctober 25, The Concert of the Two Bays, in San Francisco at the World Memorial Opera House in collaboration with the orchestra and chorus of the San Fancisco Opera to celebrate the Bicentennial of Verdi’s birth.

De Magistris’ meeting with the media – June 14, 2013 at the Commonwealth Club of SF, Gold Room  – is open to the public and will provide a rare occasion for the American press to gain first-hand insight into the dynamics that make it possible to bring a city back from the brink of collapse.
