You know you’re dealing with something special when a company has been around for over six centuries. That’s the case with Camuffo, the world’s oldest shipyard, making boats since 1438. It all began under the Venetian Republic, when the Camuffo family operated in Candia (modern-day Heraklion, Crete). As the political climate shifted with the rise of the Ottoman Empire, many skilled craftsmen relocated to Venice, the heart of European maritime power. The Camuffo family settled in Chioggia, a key port city near Venice, by the late 15th century. Their expertise in shipbuilding flourished, and they became known for their high-quality fishing boats, gondolas, and naval vessels.

Operating from their modern shipyard in Portogruaro, Veneto, the company continues to create beautiful bespoke yachts often referred to as the “Stradivariuses of the Sea”. Tutto iniziò sotto la Repubblica di Venezia, quando la famiglia Camuffo operava a Candia (l’odierna Heraklion, Creta). Con il cambiamento del clima politico dovuto all’ascesa dell’Impero Ottomano, molti artigiani qualificati si trasferirono a Venezia, il cuore della potenza marittima europea. La famiglia Camuffo si stabilì a Chioggia, una città portuale chiave vicino a Venezia, alla fine del XV secolo. La loro competenza nella costruzione navale fiorì e divennero noti per le loro barche da pesca, gondole e imbarcazioni militari di alta qualità.

Nel corso dei secoli, i costruttori navali Camuffo hanno continuato a perfezionare le loro tecniche, tenendo il passo con i progressi nella costruzione marittima e preservando l’artigianalità: la tradizione di eccellenza ha permesso loro di sopravvivere a sconvolgimenti politici ed economici e di mantenere la reputazione di essere uno dei principali costruttori navali italiani.

Facciamo un salto in avanti fino a oggi: gli yacht Camuffo sono sinonimo di lusso, artigianalità ed eleganza.
