Born in Palermo, Eleonora Abbagnato started dancing at 4 years old, and at 12 she moved to Monte Carlo to enroll in the dance school of Marika Bresobrasova. She began her dance training in 1990 at the Formation à l’Académie Princesse Grâce in Monaco and then at the Centre Rosella Hightower in Cannes. In 1992 she entered l’Ecole de danse de l’Opéra. She entered the POB Corps de ballet in 1996, became coryphée in 1999, sujet in 2000 and finally in 2001 première danseuse.

In 2012 she was the subject of a photographic exhibition with pictures by Massimo Gatti that was held in Milan, Los Angeles, London and Miami. Now she has become the director of the corps de ballet of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
