Non serve più Greta, c’è il ghiacciaio della Marmolada che frana imprevedibilmente. Non servono le scadenze di Cop26, c’è Miami che deve alzare il piano stradale perché affonda. In questa estate rovente, dalla California all’Europa, è evidente a tutti che l’acqua è preziosa come lo è la cura del territorio. Se boschi e foreste fossero manutenuti, come si faceva in passato, molti degli incendi che distruggono la contea di Mariposa o lo Yosemite Park, ma così anche il Carso friulano o la Maremma toscana, si eviterebbero. Gli incendi controllati praticati dai Nativi americani non erano tanto diversi dalle pratiche tagliafuoco dei contadini italiani che scavavano fossati per arginare il rischio di roghi boschivi. Quando la terra era il bene primario, in California come in Italia, i terreni venivano periodicamente liberati da sterpaglie, materiali del sottobosco e piante cadute, per proteggere il territorio da tutti quegli elementi in grado di alimentare un incendio quando la temperatura aumenta. Quando la terra era il mezzo primario di sussistenza, veniva modellata per rendere accoglienti e produttivi i paesaggi più inospitali e insalubri. L’opera di ingegneria che veniva messa in atto era così perfetta da raggiungere la bellezza.

Avete presente Positano? Quella cartolina incantevole fatta di mille casette arrampicate su una scogliera che si tuffa nell’acqua cristallina della Costiera amalfitana?
