Rose Festival at the Pantheon
Pentecoste al Panthon - fotografo: benvegn˘ - guaitoli

The Pentecost’s Sunday in Rome becomes very special: indeed, in the Pantheon, now considered a basilica called S. Maria ad martyres, after the Sunday Mass, a tradition takes place.

In fact, rose petals are dropped through the circular oculus opening at the top of the dome, considered the widest in Rome due to its antiquity.  The petals fall to the crowds below, reminiscent of the coming of the Holy Spirit like tongues of flame.
