Mercantia is the international festival of street art held in Certaldo, Tuscany from July 15 through July 18. It is considered the best source of inspiration for many other festivals thanks to craft theatre and theatrical craft, to enhance the old town walls.
The streets and alleyways host dozens of works and installations made for the Festival. Materials are bent and modelled recalling earth, air, fire and water as main elements; the crafts are shown and demonstrated in all ten directions, lines imagined by artists who sometimes introduce the concept of within and without. Crafts have been at the root of Mercantia since the first Festival.
