At its recent General Membership/Scholarship Awards dinner, the Stockton Chapter of Liguri Nel Mondo presented $11,250 to ten graduating high school seniors.  Each candidate submitted an application which included their scholastic achievement, high school activities, community involvement, letters of recommendation and a one page essay discussing, “Why everyone should be very proud of the contributions made to society by Italian immigrants and their descendents”.
 
Since 1992, Liguri Nel Mondo has presented over $121,000 to high school seniors and college students.  This year’s awards went to:  Andrew Billigmeier, Teresa Avansino Cortopassi Scholarship, $2,500; Catherine Atkins, Garavano/Basso Family Scholarship, $2,500; Amy Chiesa, Louis J. Franzia Memorial Scholarship, $1,000; Sophia Pruett, F. M. “Luke” Lucaccini Scholarship, $ $1,000;  Claudia Macfarlane, Frank “Chic” & Eleanora Piccardo Memorial Scholarship, $1,000;  Brandon James, James E. “Ernie” Podesta Scholarship, $1,000; Alyssa Knowles, David J. Canclini Scholarship, $750; Chelsea Canepa, Pacific Italian Alliance Scholarship, $500; Nicole Murphy, Liguri Nel Mondo Scholarship, $500; Domenico Togninali, Liguri Nel Mondo Scholarship, $500.
 
Also at this dinner, five incumbent board of directors were elected.  They are:  Judy Canclini, Alva Garibaldi, George Piccardo, Jeanette Plotz and Ray Vignolo.  They join Gary Airola, David Canclini, Doris Cortopassi, Diana Fazzio, Gary Giovanetti, Andrew Lagomarsino, John Podesta, Joseph Precissi, James Samuel and Stephen Trucco.
