The Light in Tuscany

Today we host Tuscan Muse’s blog, which gives us some insights to do the best photos when travelling around Italy. Let’s see what she tells us.

The light in Tuscany is quite simply, unique. The way that it strikes the hills and valleys of the countryside and the medieval villages jutting up high into the skies gives a magical and ethereal effect to photographs. To capture the alluring light of Tuscany is to capture the grand designs of both nature and man in a diffusion of rare phosphorescence. The vivid contrast of light and shadow never disappoints. The beauty of Tuscany is unmatched and the light of Tuscany tops the list for making this beauty possible. Photographers make it a point to shoot in Tuscany, from hobbyists to professionals.

Our Photography Getaways always include driving the “strade bianche” or white roads that meander through the Tuscan hills. With every turn in the road, the landscapes are transformed into something new. Here we have a valley that captures the light; there we have a hillside that seems to repel the light back to the sky. The views are expansive and unlimited. The light cloaks the landscapes with a beautiful and sublime lens of its own. As the day progresses into night, the lens makes dramatic changes. From dawn to dusk, a kaleidoscope of illumination performs its magic. Many wonder, “How is this possible”?

Our home in Tuscany is in Val d’Orica, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Val d’Orcia, south of Siena, was formed from white clay. This is not the common, dark soil that is typically found elsewhere. The white clay gives the light a pearlescent quality and the landscapes glow in varying degrees and color shades based on the position of the sun and the amount of moisture in the air. A foggy morning, a mid-day rain or the settling of the evening dew all appear differently in Tuscany. This light inspired the Renaissance artists and architects and it is no wonder that it exhilarates modern photographers in the same way.

The light of Tuscany is sure to infuse any photographer with the spirit of creativity and a heightened vision filled with possibilities. Our Photography Getaways in Tuscany are not just another photography tour. Nature’s lens provides the perfect and most beautiful views for capturing. The gleam in you lens becomes the gleam in your eye, which in turn adds a brighter sheen to your spirit. The light of Tuscany is a rare treat that every photographer deserves to experience. Capture the light of Tuscany in a Tuscan Muse Photographer’s Getaway and show your lens the best views ever!
