Not as famous as Como, Lecco is a beuatiful small town on the same lake, although it is located on the west branch. Nominated “Alpine town of the Year” in 2013, it was built and developed between the 6th and 10th centuries, and subsequently was part of the Duchy of Milan.
Walking around its small, compact center is a real joy, as all of it is pedestrian only: if you are a literature enthusiast, check out the mounemnts and museum desicated to Alessandro Manzoni’s “I Promessi Sposi” (The Betrothed).
