At the end of World War II, Italy became a Republic, convincingly inspired by the principles of solidarity, justice and democracy, which are still indispensable foundations of the nation’s life.
 
This is the message once again highlighted at the celebrations of the 71st anniversary of the birth of the Italian Republic, which took place at the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles. “The Italian Republic,” Consul General Antonio Verde underlined, “is firmly founded on universal values of freedom, justice, equality and respect for human rights, a valuable contribution to progress and peace for the international community and the rich diversity of its components.”

This year, receiving the Honorary Commitment of the Order of the Star of Italy, was the well-known American actor Richard Harrison, one of the protagonists of the extraordinary season of Italian cinema from Hollywood sul Tevere (Hollywood on the Tiber)

A journey, an accomplishment that is renewed every day through a thousand facets, thanks in part to the enthusiasm and intense work of Sistema Italia – the network of Italian officials present in Los Angeles, coordinated by the Consulate General, working to further foster and expand cultural, economic and scientific links that unite our nation to the United States of America.
Connections over the years have been strengthened thanks to the tremendous contribution that Italians and Italian-Americans have brought to the development of this generous host nation through their work, creativity and the passion that has always characterized them.

And with regard to Italian excellence, this year, the godmother of the event organized by the Consulate General of Italy was the well-known Italian actress, Francesca Inaudi, who reminded us of the importance of the role of women in the vote of June 2, 1946, a historic vote which led to the birth of the Republic. “It’s difficult,” she added with irony, “to give birth to anything without the help of a woman.”
 
On the podium, the popular Neapolitan actor Luca Riemma was able to bring moments of joy to the evening. A line of altar boys joined the host with Monsignor Antonio Cacciapuoti who opened the festivities with a rite of blessing to the community in the room.

The solemn backdrop of the event was then revived by the sophisticated creations of Emilio Cavallini, the artist who subsequently inaugurated design week with the show “Harmony Runs on a Thread.”

The notes of the National Anthems, elegantly interpreted by soprano Elisabetta Russo – accompanied by Trio Jasmine Tommaso – and by baritone Gino Gaudio, carried us onward to the celebrations.
 
The former Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio (arriving from Italy for the occasion), and the creators of the ClHub incubator – a project designed to accelerate business growth, were also among the testimonials of the evening. Born in Sardinia, ClHub has also opened its own subsidiaries in Santa Monica and London, and is now engaged in the internationalization of Italian startups (food-tech, design, renewable energies and other innovative sectors) to further boost Italy’s penetration into the LA Silicon Beach ecosystem. To further foster the involvement of younger bands and to promote the extraordinary variety of Italian food and agriculture, the Consulate General launched a new social initiative on June 2nd – #TheExtraordinary ItalianTaste Photo Contest – which is a contest on Twitter and Facebook born in collaboration with L’Italo-Americano and with the involvement of many chefs and food bloggers. “This is an outreach action,” the Consul stressed, “as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to further enhance Italian creativity and excellence abroad.” First place winner with the most likes & shares was Antonio Gerli, who brought home a round trip ticket to Italy offered by ProTravel International. Other awards were offered by Dream Racing – Italian Sport Cars Driving Experience in Las Vegas, by the restaurant Da Pasquale, by Lamborghini, by Matteo Pasquini Coffee, and by L’Italo-Americano.

But the National Holiday, as usual, was also an occasion to honor personalities that have given exceptional service to the country in the civil, social, economic or cultural field. And this year, receiving the Honorary Commitment of the Order of the Star of Italy, was the well-known American actor Richard Harrison, one of the protagonists of the extraordinary season of Italian cinema from Hollywood sul Tevere (Hollywood on the Tiber). A true friend of Italy (for which he has always expressed deep gratitude for the possibilities offered by our country for the achievement of full artistic maturity), and an enthusiastic testimony to the vibrance of our cinema and the Italian Way of Life, Richard Harrison was said to be moved and happy to receive a recognition such as the crowning of a life spent in the name of love for our nation – and not least of all, his marriage to Francesca Harrison, a real Pugliese, delegate of the Italian Kitchen Academy in Los Angeles.

The high level of participation of local authorities was also remarkable (who handed over to the Consul General traditional proclamations, the official cards of the various administrations), the Consular Body, Committees and other representatives of the communities of the business world, of scientific research, startups, universities, arts and cinema.
 
Attending the celebrations were also representatives of numerous Italian universities and educational establishments who came to Los Angeles to promote studies opportunities in Italy at the annual NAFSA conference.
 
Advanced Italian technology was also represented by Lamborghini, who in the space in front of the Institute of Culture, revealed one of the only two “Huracan Performante” cars currently present in the United States, as a symbol of Italy’s modernity and of its innovation capacity. And finally, at the end of the celebrations was the host kitchen of Drago, a lively expression of quality between tradition and innovation, the unmistakable “Made in Italy” brand.
Alla fine della seconda guerra mondiale, l’Italia si è dotata di una Costituzione Repubblicana convintamente ispirata ai principi di solidarietà giustizia, e democrazia, tutt’ora fondamenti imprescindibili della vita del Paese.
Questo il messaggio ancora una volta sottolineato in occasione delle celebrazioni del 71esimo anniversario della nascita della Repubblica Italiana che si sono svolte presso l’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Los Angeles. “La Repubblica Italiana – ha sottolineato il Console Generale Antonio Verde – si fonda saldamente su valori universali di libertà, giustizia, uguaglianza e rispetto dei diritti umani, prezioso contributo di sviluppo e pace per la comunità internazionale e alla ricca diversità delle sue componenti”.
Un percorso, una conquista che si rinnova quotidianamente attraverso mille sfaccettature grazie anche all’entusiasmo e al lavoro intenso del Sistema Italia – la rete degli organismi ufficiali italiani presenti a Los Angeles, coordinati dal Consolato Generale, che lavora per favorire ed  espandere ulteriormente i legami culturali, economici e scientifici che uniscono la nostra nazione agli Stati Uniti d’America.
Legami che nel corso degli anni si sono rafforzati, inoltre, grazie all’enorme contributo che gli italiani e gli italoamericani hanno apportato allo sviluppo di questa generosa nazione ospitante, attraverso il lavoro, la creatività e la passione viva che da sempre li contraddistingue.
E a proposito di eccellenze italiane, quest’anno madrina dell’evento organizzato dal Consolato Generale d’Italia, è stata la nota attrice italiana Francesca Inaudi che ha ricordato l’importanza del ruolo delle donne nel voto del due giugno 1946, un voto storico che ha portato alla nascita della Repubblica. “E’ difficile del resto – ha aggiunto con ironia l’attrice – dare alla luce qualsiasi cosa senza l’aiuto di una donna”.
Sul podio ad accompagnare con brio i momenti della serata anche il popolare attore napoletano Luca Riemma. Un passato da chierichetto lo unisce idealmente all’ospite che ha aperto i festeggiamenti con la benedizione di rito alla comunità presente in sala – Monsignor Antonio Cacciapuoti.
Le note degli Inni nazionali, interpretate elegantemente dal soprano Elisabetta Russo – accompagnata dal Trio Jasmine Tommaso – e dal baritono Gino Gaudio, ci hanno trasportato poi nel vivo delle celebrazioni.
In presenza  dell’ex ministro dell’agricoltura e ambiente, Alfonso Pecoraro  Scanio (arrivato dall’Italia per l’occasione), i creatori dell’incubatore ClHub –  un progetto ideato per accelerare la crescita delle imprese, sono inoltre stati tra i testimonial della serata.  Nato in Sardegna, ClHub ha aperto proprie filiali operative anche a Santa Monica e a Londra, ed è ora impegnato nell’internazionalizzazione di startup italiane (food-tech, design, energie rinnovabili e altri settori innovativi) per favorire ulteriormente la penetrazione dell’Italia nell’ecosistema della LA Silicon Beach.  Lo sfondo solenne della ricorrenza è stato ravvivato poi dalle creazioni raffinate di Emilio Cavallini, l’artista che ha successivamente inaugurato all’IIC  la settimana del design con la mostra “Harmony Runs on a Thread” .
Per favorire poi il coinvolgimento delle fasce più giovani, e promuovere al contempo la straordinaria varietà del patrimonio agroalimentare italiano, il Consolato Generale ha lanciato in occasione del due giugno una nuova iniziativa social – #TheExtraordinaryItalianTaste Photo Contest –  vale a dire un contest su Twitter e Facebook nato in collaborazione proprio con l’Italo-Americano e con il coinvolgimento di numerosi chef e food blogger.   “Si tratta di un’azione di outreach  – ha sottolineato il Console  – nell’ambito dello sforzo in atto da parte del Governo per valorizzare anche all’estero la creatività e le eccellenze italiane.” Vincitore del primo premio con il maggior  numero di like & share è stato Antonio Gerli, che ha portato a casa un viaggio di andata e ritorno per l’Italia offerto dalla ProTravel International. Altri premi sono stati offerti da Dream Racing – Italian Sport Cars Driving Experience in Las Vegas, dal ristorante Da Pasquale, da Lamborghini, da Matteo Pasquini Coffee, e da L’ItaloAmericano, per l’appunto.
Ma la Festa Nazionale, come di consueto, è stata anche l’occasione per onorare personalità che hanno reso eccezionali servigi al Paese in campo civile, sociale, economico o culturale. E quest’anno, a ricevere l’Onorificenza di Commendatore dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia, è stato il noto attore americano Richard Harrison, tra i maggiori protagonisti della straordinaria stagione del cinema italiano della Hollywood sul Tevere. Sincero amico dell’Italia (nei confronti della quale ha espresso da sempre profonda gratitudine per le possibilità offertagli dal nostro Paese ai fini del raggiungimento della piena maturità artistica), entusiasta testimonial della vitalità del nostro cinema e dell’Italian Way of Life, Richard Harrison si è detto commosso e felice di ricevere un tale riconoscimento a coronamento di una vita spesa all’insegna dell’amore per la nostra nazione – non ultimo, il matrimonio con Francesca Harrison, pugliese Doc, delegata dell’Accademia Italiana della Cucina a Los Angeles.
L’onorificenza di Cavaliere dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana è stata invece riservata all’imprenditore di origine italiana Alexander Cappello come riconoscimento per il suo costante impegno volto alla promozione dell’Italia e delle sue migliori produzioni sul mercato statunitense ed internazionale.
Nutrita e di alto livello è stata inoltre la partecipazione di autoritá locali (che hanno consegnato al Console Generale le tradizionali proclamation, i riconoscimenti augurali ufficiali delle varie amministrazioni), del Corpo Consolare,  Comites e altri rappresentanti della collettivitá del mondo degli affari , della ricerca scientifica, delle startup, delle universitá,  delle arti e del cinema.
Hanno partecipato alle celebrazioni anche i rappresentanti di numerose universitá e realtà educative italiane giunte a Los Angeles per promuovere le opportunità di studio in Italia in occasione della conferenza annuale NAFSA.
L’alta tecnologia italiana è stata inoltre rappresentata anche da Lamborghini che ha esposto, nello spazio antistante l’Istituto di Cultura, una delle sole due vetture “Huracan Performante” attualmente presenti negli Stati Uniti, quale simbolo della modernità e della capacità di innovazione dell’Italia di oggi. E per finire, a chiusura delle celebrazioni, la cucina ospitante di Drago, vivace espressione della qualità tra tradizione e innovazione, l’inconfondibile marchio del made in Italy.
