Ginrosa: bittersweet drink from Milan
Ginrosa: bittersweet drink from Milan

Every place has a signature drink and Milan, buzzing, energetic and always fashion conscious, is not different: if you want to taste an authentic piece of Milanese history skip the popular aperitivo bars in with the hip crowd and head down to Ginrosa, an institution with cocktail lovers.

Located in a gallery off of Piazza San Babila, not far from the Duomo, Ginrosa has been around for what seems like forever: the bar has been serving its signature cocktail since 1820 and, after going through many changes, it has reopened in its present shape and location in 1930. If you stop by before lunch or before dinner, you will see an incredible amount of red colored cocktails being shaken and poured by the expert bartenders. Ginrosa, a mixture of more than 20 different herbs, is prepared with a secret recipe, but the good news is that the bar sells bottles of it, so you can take it home, shake it with ice and serve it with a slice of orange. Just has they have been doing in Milan for almost 20 years.
