Ornella Barra was included in the top ten list of Fortune’s 50 Most Powerful Women based outside the U.S. Barra, who was recently appointed co-chief operating officer of Walgreens Boots Alliance, is the first Italian and the 10th overall in the list comprising Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and Oceania (the list does not include the U.S.). Barra has appeared in the first 15 positions of the list since 2010.
The only other Italian woman to appear on the list is Marina Berlusconi, executive chairman of Fininvest and chairman of Mondadori. The daughter of former Italy’s prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, she placed 49th.
