Fiat denies its willing to relocate in U.S. after merging with Chrysler 'Fiat to operate in both countries'

Fiat has denied to be willing to definitely relocate its headquarter in US after completing the merge with Chrysler.

 

The president of Italian automaker Elkann, nephew of Gianni Agnelli, said the company will operate in both countries once the merging process with Chrysler is complete. “Like all big organizations, Fiat is well-protected wherever it operates,” John Elkann told journalists when asked if the company is thinking to relocate its headquarter to Michigan, USA.

 

“This means that there’s Turin for Europe, Detroit for America, Betim for Latin America and Shanghai for Asia. That’s how things work, which we’ve explained and clarified multiple times. That’s how we operate”. 

 

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has led Chrysler since it emerged from bankruptcy in 2009 under Fiat’s majority ownership. Marchionne has reportedly been moving closer to his goal of finding financing to purchase the remaining 41.5% of Chrysler shares.

 

Many questions have been raised in Italy and the US over where the single company would be located.
