Celebrating “Italian Design Day” in Los Angeles

The Consulate General of Italy, has organized a special event at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles to celebrate “Italian Design Day”. Promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the Triennale di Milano, MISE and MIBACT it will be celebrated simultaneously, throughout the world. The biggest names in Italian Design will visit 100 Consular and Diplomatic Network locations abroad, including Los Angeles, as “Ambassadors of Design”.

The event will take place on March 2nd. The purpose of this initiative - as Consul General Antonio Verde has highlighted - “will be to illustrate the history, the new trends and the industrial prospective of a fundamental segment of Italian creativity whose excellence is recognized and admired everywhere.”

Two Italian architects based in California: Elena Pacenti (Dean of the Domus Academy School of Design in San Diego) and Carlo Caccavale (Executive Director of The American Institute of Architects Los Angeles) will join the “Ambassador of  the Italian Design”, specifically sent from Italy for the occasion, architect Lorenzo Damiani, specialized in “Furniture and Product Design”.

Panel formed for the Italian Design Day in Los Angeles

Carlo Caccavale, Associate Director of the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles from 2003 until now and Executive Director of the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles from January 2017.

Lorenzo Damiani - “Ambassador of Design” designated by MAECI - received his degree in Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. He focuses on furniture and product design and has collaborated with many famous specialized companies. Some of his works are on display at the Chicago Athenaeum, Museo della Triennale and Vitra Museum.

Elena Pacenti - “Ambassador of Design” designated by MAECI - Dean of Domus Academy School of Design at Newschool of Architecture & Design, San Diego, California. Architect and PhD in Industrial Design, previously directed the Domus Academy Research Center, the Master of Service Design and the Design School at Domus Academy in Milan.

Il Consolato Generale ha organizzato a Los Angeles un’iniziativa presso il Pacific Design Center nell’ambito dell’“Italian Design Day”, progetto promosso dal Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale, in collaborazione con Triennale di Milano, Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico e Ministero dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali e del Turismo.

L’evento, che avrà luogo il prossimo 2 Marzo, verrà celebrato in contemporanea in tutto il mondo grazie al coinvolgimento dei maggiori protagonisti del design italiano che saranno presenti in più di 100 sedi estere della rete diplomatica consolare in qualità di Ambasciatori del Design. Scopo dell’iniziativa – come sottolineato dal Console Generale Antonio Verde – “sarà quello d’illustrare la storia, le nuove tendenze e le prospettive industriali di un fondamentale settore della creatività italiana che ha saputo esprimere eccellenze uniche al mondo.”

Due architetti italiani operativi da anni in California: Elena Pacenti (Dean della Domus Academy School of Design di San Diego) e Carlo Caccavale (Executive Director dell’American Institute of Architects Los Angeles) affiancheranno l’“Ambasciatore del Design Italiano” giunto appositamente dall’Italia per prendere parte a questa iniziativa, Architetto Lorenzo Damiani, apprezzato protagonista della scena italiana e internazionale soprattutto nel campo del “Furniture e Product Design”.
